About the circuit

Donington Park is a British racing circuit near the village of Castle Donington in Leicestershire, central England, adjacent to East Midlands Airport and just off the M1 motorway. The circuit was originally opened in 1931 as the first permanent racing circuit in England (other than the Brooklands oval) and hosted the famous pre-war Donington Grand Prix, dominated by the German Mercedes and Auto Union teams. Closed after the Second World War and used as a military vehicle storage depot, it was revived in 1977 by Tom Wheatcroft. The main (Grand Prix) circuit is 4,020 m long with 12 corners, including the famous Craner Curves section. The track hosted the legendary 1993 European Grand Prix won in the wet by Ayrton Senna. The circuit holds FIA Grade 2 homologation, is owned by MotorSport Vision, and hosts the World Superbike Championship (WSBK), British Touring Car Championship, British GT, British Superbike Championship and many other series.

Site of the legendary wet 1993 European Grand Prix won by Ayrton Senna, who climbed from 5th to 1st on the opening lap; the iconic Craner Curves section is among the most famous sequences in British motorsport.
