About the circuit
Brands Hatch is a British racing circuit in the village of West Kingsdown in Kent in south-eastern England, about an hour's drive from London. The track was opened in 1950, originally as a grass motorcycle circuit, with the paved 1.609 km layout gradually extended over the years. The full Grand Prix configuration opened in 1960 and now measures 3,916 m with 11 corners (6 right, 3 left, plus combinations). The shorter Indy configuration of 1,944 m is set in a natural amphitheatre. Famous for its dramatic 37 m of elevation change, blind crests and the downhill Paddock Hill Bend, the track hosted the F1 British Grand Prix twelve times between 1964 and 1986. The circuit is now owned by Jonathan Palmer's MotorSport Vision group, holds FIA Grade 2 homologation, and hosts the British Touring Car Championship, British Superbike Championship, British GT and many other national and international series.
Site of Nigel Mansell's first F1 victory (1985 European Grand Prix); the downhill, off-camber Paddock Hill Bend taken directly off the main straight is one of British motorsport's most dramatic opening corners.
