About the circuit

Knockhill Racing Circuit is a Scottish racing circuit in Fife, about 10 km north of the town of Dunfermline. The track was opened in September 1974 on the initiative of local farmer Tom Kinnaird on his own farmland, created by linking service roads with a disused mineral railway that had served the Lethans Colliery. The first car race was held on 18 May 1975. The circuit has three configurations — International (2,092 m, 9 corners), National (1,609 m, 10 corners) and tri-oval (483 m). The track is 10 m wide, with 37 m of elevation change (some sources cite 60 m / 200 ft between the highest and lowest points of the wider site). It holds FIA Grade 3 homologation — the only FIA-graded circuit in Scotland — and since 2012 was the first circuit in modern UK to be licensed to run in both directions. The headline events are the annual rounds of the British Touring Car Championship (BTCC) and the British Superbike Championship (BSB). Owned by Derek Butcher since 1984.

The only FIA-graded circuit in Scotland; the first UK circuit in the modern era (since 2012) licensed to run in both clockwise and anti-clockwise directions; home of the Scottish rounds of the British Touring Car Championship and the British Superbike Championship.
