Automotodrom Grobnik / Rijeka

Automotodrom Grobnik is a Croatian racing circuit on the plateau above the city of Rijeka, about 10 km north of the city centre, near the village of Grobnik and the A6 motorway. The track was opened on 14 September 1978 as a replacement for the dangerous Opatija street circuit, where two riders had been killed in 1977. The 4,168 m circuit holds FIA Grade 4 and FIM homologation, making it the only FIA- and FIM-accredited racing circuit in Croatia. The track is 10 m wide (15 m at the start straight), has 18 corners (10 left, 8 right), runs anti-clockwise, and features 22 m of elevation change. From 1978 to 1990 it hosted the Yugoslavian Grand Prix in the road motorcycle world championship. Between 1991 and 1995 operations were disrupted by the Yugoslav wars. From 2017 to 2018 it underwent a major renovation: new asphalt, 2,500 m of new kerbs, modernized barriers and run-off zones. Today it hosts the FIA CEZ F3, NASCAR Whelen Euro Series (2020–2022), the Sidecar World Championship, the Alpe Adria series and others.

The only FIA- and FIM-accredited racing circuit in Croatia; built in just 15 months to replace the lethally dangerous Opatija street circuit; hosted the Yugoslavian Grand Prix in the motorcycle road racing world championship (1978–1990).
