About the circuit

The Misano World Circuit Marco Simoncelli is an Italian racing circuit near the town of Misano Adriatico in the Province of Rimini in the Emilia-Romagna region, on the Adriatic coast about 120 km south-east of Bologna. The track was opened in August 1972 as the Autodromo di Santamonica. Following a major reconstruction in 2006 the circuit took its present form and has since been run clockwise (it had previously been run anti-clockwise). The 4,226 m track has 16 corners (10 right, 6 left) and is 14 m wide. The longest straight is 530 m. In November 2011, the circuit was renamed in honour of Italian MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli, who was killed during the 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix and was a native of nearby Cattolica. The circuit holds FIA Grade 2 and FIM homologation. It hosts the San Marino motorcycle Grand Prix, the WSBK, the FIA European Truck Racing Championship, the Italian GT Championship, the Italian F4 Championship and others.

Named in honour of Italian MotoGP rider Marco Simoncelli, who was killed at the 2011 Malaysian Grand Prix and grew up in nearby Cattolica; the traditional home of the San Marino motorcycle Grand Prix.
