Nürburgring Nordschleife

The Nürburgring Nordschleife, nicknamed "The Green Hell" ("Grüne Hölle") by Jackie Stewart, is the legendary north loop of the Nürburgring complex in the Eifel mountains in Germany. Built between 1925 and 1927 and inaugurated on 18 June 1927, it was designed by architect Gustav Eichler. At 20,832 m, the Nordschleife is the longest permanent racing circuit in the world, and with 300 m of elevation change (from 320 m at Breidscheid to 617 m at Hohe Acht) also one of the most demanding. It features 73 corners (40 right, 33 left) and its longest straight, Döttinger Höhe, is 2,135 m long, where speeds above 300 km/h are reached. The circuit hosted the F1 German Grand Prix from 1951 to 1976; after Niki Lauda's catastrophic fiery crash in 1976, F1 moved elsewhere. Today the Nordschleife hosts the 24 Hours of Nürburgring race, the Nürburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS), public Touristenfahrten sessions, and serves as the gold standard for high-performance road car testing — so-called "Nordschleife records" are a key benchmark for manufacturers.
