About the circuit

The Hockenheimring Baden-Württemberg is a racing circuit in south-western Germany near the town of Hockenheim, in the Rhine valley between Frankfurt am Main and Stuttgart. The track was originally opened in 1932 (as the Dreieckskurs / later Kurpfalzring) and the current GP layout of 4,574 m dates from 2002, when Hermann Tilke dramatically shortened the previous 6.8 km high-speed forest version. The track has 17 corners (11 right, 6 left), is 12–18 m wide and has a capacity of 70,000. Its signature feature is the "Motodrom" — a stadium section with large grandstands surrounding the closing corners. The circuit holds FIA Grade 1 homologation, hosted the F1 German Grand Prix for many years (most recently in 2019), DTM and many other series. Noise limit is 102 dB.

The "Motodrom" — the stadium section with large grandstands surrounding the seven closing corners, the only major element preserved from the high-speed forest layout that existed before the 2002 reconstruction.
