Circuit de Dijon-Prenois

Circuit Dijon-Prenois is a French racing circuit near the village of Prenois in the Côte-d'Or department of the Burgundy region, about 15 km north-west of the city of Dijon. The track was opened on 26 May 1972 on the initiative of former rugby player and wrestler François Chambelland. The original version measured 3,289 m, but following the sole 1974 F1 French Grand Prix it was deemed too short; in 1976–1977 it was extended with an uphill hairpin to its current 3,801 m with 9 corners. The track is famed for its dramatic elevation changes, fast sweeping bends and undulating terrain. It hosted the F1 French Grand Prix five times (1974, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1984), the 1982 Swiss F1 Grand Prix, and rounds of F3000, the ETCC and other series. The most famous moment is the legendary Gilles Villeneuve vs. René Arnoux duel in the closing laps of the 1979 French Grand Prix, considered one of the greatest battles in F1 history. Today it hosts mainly national racing, historic series (the Grand Prix de l'Age d'Or), track days and club racing.
