About the circuit
The Circuit Paul Ricard, often called "Le Castellet", is a racing circuit in the south of France in the Var department, built on a plateau in Provence. Inaugurated on 19 April 1970 by drinks magnate Paul Ricard, it was at the time one of the most modern and safest tracks in the world. The longest configuration measures 5,842 m with 15 corners, including the famous 1.8 km Mistral Straight. The circuit is FIA Grade 1 homologated and today offers up to 247 possible configurations (from 828 m to 5.858 km). It is renowned for its distinctive blue and red run-off zones made of abrasive asphalt (the "Blue Line" concept), which slow errant cars without the need for gravel traps. The track has hosted the F1 French Grand Prix (1971–1990 and 2018–2022) and is widely used for F1 testing and other top-tier series.
